Problem Statement ︴ Being a fast-growing startup, MoneySmart, the goal is to reduce the time to market and drastically improve our product experience. We realized that in order to do this, we needed to change the way we worked and focus heavily on scalability. Hence, there is a strong need for a new design ecosystem. And so to start things off, we have to create a design identity for the system.
We call it Cargo.
First draft of logos. Played around with 3 concepts: 3D, minimal and abstract. Logos are done in Google Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite.
The team and I decided that there’s potential for this logo to be turned into a logo system.
A logo system for a design system.
I proceeded to work on the abstract concept further. A logo system is a graphical framework that adapts to different situations, products and topics. Keeping the design modular, the shapes can be stacked or even combined with text boxes to create a variety of visual identities.
The shapes that read “CARGO” can fit into 5 squares, emphasising the modular concept. With this, it would be easy to combine the shapes with text or other shapes.
Abstract shapes would look great on swag too!
Worked with the UX/UI and Product team to create a minimal layout to start the Design System rolling. We realised that it did not really tie back to the MoneySmart branding.
So we decided to try out different colour schemes with the brand’s signature blue and green, as well as various layouts including the MoneySmart logo.
And we ended up with the final logo. The Design System is a work in progress and we’re working on the layout of the website still. Very excited to see this evolve over time!
